The Gatekeeper's Role
Gatekeepers play a vital role watching out for seniors who may be at risk or who may not have been seen or heard from in days. Gatekeepers learn to recognize the signs that indicate when a senior might need help and call the Niagara Gatekeeper Intake Line to report their concerns. Trained intake workers who are regulated health professionals (most often nurses) monitor the Gakekeeper intake line and ensure that appropriate action is taken to connect the older adult with the right health and community services. All that is requested of Gatekeepers is that they be aware and alert while conducting their daily activities. Gatekeepers "open the door to services for seniors in need", and in doing so, help to make our community a safer place to live. The role of the Gatekeeper in identifying older adults who are potentially at risk is essential. Without your help, many individuals would not receive the assistance they need to maintain their independence and chosen lifestyle. This site last updated on:
