Can I be held liable for referring someone to the Gatekeeper Program?

Many individuals express concern that their involvement as a Gatekeeper may result in unwanted legal action should they report an older adult to the Gatekeeper Program. The Gatekeeper approach has been carefully designed to work within the law protecting the rights of anyone who is referred to the Program. A Gatekeeper who is acting in good faith is not going to be held legally responsible for being concerned enough to make a referral.

Please note: The information presented here may not be true in all cases and in all jurisdictions. The law does change from time to time. If you are not sure, be sure to obtain legal council regarding your particular situation.
