The Niagara Gatekeepers Program is an innovative outreach program that trains people who regularly come in contact with older adults to recognize possible signs of risk and link those individuals who appear to be vulnerable to our network of community-based service providers. While Gatekeeper programs have been successfully implemented in the United States, this is the first initiative of its kind in Ontario.

Our program was originally funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation as a pilot project and is managed by a regional Steering Committee made up of representatives from service agencies, businesses and the community-at-large. Our program includes information on how to identify possible signs of "Elder Abuse". The long-term goal is to expand the Niagara Gatekeepers program across the entire Niagara Region.
